What is the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)?

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is one of Canada’s most popular programs within the country’s Express Entry system that processes permanent residency applications. In 1967, Canada launched the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) to select immigrants from all over the world based on their age, language skills, education, occupation, and work experience, among other factors.

Who is the Federal Skilled Worker Program for?

The Federal Skilled Worker Program is for skilled workers and professionals from around the world who want to immigrate to Canada permanently. The candidates can apply with their spouse/partner and dependent children.

What are the advantages of the Federal Skilled Worker Program?

The FSWP is managed through the Express Entry application system. Most Federal Skilled Worker Express Entry candidates immigrate to Canada and go on to have successful and fulfilling careers in Canada. Here are a few benefits of the FSWP:

You become a permanent resident within six months

You do not need to have any connection to Canada in order to be eligible for the program

What are the Eligibility Requirements for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)?

  • A minimum of 12 months of full-time, continuous, skilled work experience in a single occupation completed within the previous ten years (or an equivalent amount in part-time experience)
  • Skilled work experience is the experience classified under NOC Skill Level 0, A, or B

A minimum education requirement equal to the completion of a Canadian high school diploma or an equivalent in foreign education

 

A minimum score of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 7 on an approved French or English test

Sufficient funds to support yourself, your spouse/partner, and/or children in settlement in Canada

Willing to live outside the province of Quebec

How to Apply for Federal Skilled Worker Program?

Here is a step-by-step guide on the immigration process to Canada through the FSWP:

    Check your FSWP eligibility.

  • 02

    Complete an English and/or French language test designated by the Canadian government. Also, obtain an Educational Credential Assessment and make sure you have a valid passport.

  • 03

    Submit your Express Entry profile on the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website.

  • 04

    Check if you have received an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence. IRCC holds Express Entry draws every two weeks approximately.

  • 05

    If you receive an ITA, submit your completed permanent residence application to IRCC. The application is processed within six months or less, after which you can move to Canada.

Where can you live in Canada?
